As a Mental Health Worker for our youth therapeutic program located in North Vancouver, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that provides support, care, and mentorship to at-risk youth with complex mental health and behavioural challenges. This line is 40 hours/week, Wednesday-Sunday, 3pm-11pm shifts.
You will lead the program service plan implementation of client-focused, evidence-based therapeutic interventions and support required for youth with complex mental health and behavioural issues. This is a unique and key leadership role that delivers and evaluates therapeutic interventions, works closely with clients, families and collateral professionals, and provides liaison with community programs and organizations. The Child & Youth Mental Health Worker works closely with the Clinical Manager, consulting psychologist, and Clinical Director, using an inter-professional, collaborative approach.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education and minimum three years of recent experience providing assessment and treatment services for children/youth in therapeutic settings with psychiatric/mental health concerns
- Working knowledge of DSM diagnoses and related treatments, the Mental Health Act, the Hospital Act and the Child, Family and Community Service Act
- Experience working with at-risk youth with aggression
- Experience with trauma informed care
- Ability to set strong boundaries with youth
- Knowledge regarding brain injury and higher rates of impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, processing disorder, lower ability to evaluate risks, and diminished critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of neuro-cognitive disorders and presentation
- Experience working with youth with self-injurious behaviour
- Understanding of attachment disorders
- Clear, direct and sensitive verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check and Ministry of Children and Family Development consolidated check
- Minimum Class 7N BC Driver's License and acceptable driving record
- Proof of COVID-19 double vaccination record or exemption from the provincial health authority
A sample of what you’ll be doing:
- Perform key duties such as intake, treatment planning, crisis intervention, consultation, and facilitating and coordinating client access to services
- Monitoring and overseeing data collection and tracking
- Taking a leadership role in implementing support strategies and behaviour support plans
- Providing coaching to frontline team members to ensure that they develop appropriate skills to achieve successful outcomes with client
- Assisting the Program Supervisor in maintaining client files
Salary: $24.00-$26.50/hour plus benefits
