We are looking for Youth Care Workers at our therapeutic program in Vancouver. You will have the opportunity to be part of a team that provides support, care, and mentorship for at-risk Indigenous youth with complex traumas and mental health needs, and will contribute to a team focused on increasing stabilization, belonging, and empowerment for youth. You will be supporting vulnerable youth experiencing street involvement, substance misuse, mental health concerns, and involvement with the justice system. This position offers you the opportunity to provide continuous care while creating a supportive and stable environment for the youth you will work with. Specific training and knowledge regarding working with high risk Indigenous youth experiencing mental health concerns and substance misuse would be an asset for this role. Knowledge and training in First Aid, Naloxone , NVCI and/or Mandt is required for this position. Training in First Aid, Mandt and NVCI will be offered to the successful candidates if they do not already have them. Strong advocacy skills and previous experience working within the justice system and child welfare system is beneficial in this role. The ability to advocate Experience with and an understanding of Indigenous culture, practices, and history as well as the LGBTQ community is also a strong asset for this role. The lines available are:
32 hours/week 3PM-11PM Thursday-Sunday
32 hours/week 3PM-11PM Friday-Monday
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in related field and/or equivalent experience working with at-risk youth
- 2-3 years of experience working with at-risk youth with complex mental and behavioural challenges, and who may be aggressive
- Experience or knowledge of trauma-informed care
- Ability to set strong boundaries and build appropriate rapport with youth
- Understanding of attachment disorders
- Experience performing outreach, working with community resources, and funders
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication
- Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check and Ministry of Children and Family Development consolidated check (takes up to 6 weeks to process so please plan accordingly)
- Proof of COVID-19 double vaccination record
A sample of what you’ll be doing:
- Maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the home
- Building positive working relationships with the youth, their families, community members, and other professionals (e.g. social workers, probation officers)
- Facilitating recreational and/or educational activities
- Performing outreach as needed
- Performing household maintenance duties, preparing meals, administering medication
- Attending school meetings and case conferences when required
- Encouraging and modeling acceptable social standards and setting and maintaining appropriate limits
- Collaborating with the clinical team and providing input into assessments and youth care plans
Salary: $22.70-$24.00/hour plus benefits
