As a Youth Care Worker at our youth therapeutic program located in Burnaby you will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that provides support, care, and mentorship to at-risk youth with complex mental health and behavioural challenges. You would be supporting a vulnerable youth experiencing substance misuse, as well as involvement in the downtown East Side. Specific training and knowledge regarding working with high-risk youth experiencing substance misuse as well as involvement in the downtown East Side would be beneficial to this position. Having an understanding of youth advocacy along with conducting outreach are beneficial. The available position is 24 hours/week: 2 Daytime shifts (Saturday & Sunday 7:00-3:00 or 9:00-5:00) & 1 afternoon shift (Monday 3:00-11:00)
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in related field and/or equivalent experience working with at-risk youth
- Experience working with at-risk youth with complex mental health, behavioural challenges, and substance use
- Clear, direct, and sensitive verbal and written communication skills
- Class 5 Driver's License Required
- Current First Aid/CPR training
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or MANDT Training (will be offered if you do not already possess)
- Current Naloxone training (or be willing to complete training we provide)
- Proof of COVID-19 double vaccination record or exemption from the provincial health authority
A sample of what you’ll be doing:
- Maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the home
- Building positive working relationships with the youth, their families, community members, and other professionals (e.g. social workers, probation officers)
- Facilitating recreational and/or educational activities
- Attending school meetings and case conferences when required
- Encouraging and modeling acceptable social standards and setting and maintaining appropriate limits
- Collaborating with the clinical team and providing input into assessments and youth care plans
- Performing household maintenance duties, preparing meals, administering medication
Salary: $22.70-$24.00/hour plus benefits
