As a Behaviour Support Worker for our Special Needs therapeutic program in Richmond, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a team that provides support, care, and mentorship to youth with ASD and special needs in a therapeutic home setting. The lines available are:
- Sunday-Thursday 7am-3pm
- Tuesday-Saturday 3pm-11pm
- Sunday-Wednesday 3pm-11pm
- Sunday-Tuesday 11pm-7am
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Psychology, ECE, ABA, Social Services, or related field and/or equivalent experience working with youth with ASD and special needs
- Minimum one year of experience working with youth with ASD and behavioural challenges
- Comfortable working with aggressive behaviours
- Ability to set and maintain firm boundaries with youth
- Effective de-escalation and crisis management skills
- Ability to follow behavioural support plans
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication
- Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check and Ministry of Children and Family Development consolidated check (takes up to 6 weeks to process so please plan accordingly)
- Comfortable assisting with personal care
- Proof of COVID-19 double vaccination record or exemption from the provincial health authority
A sample of what you’ll be doing:
- Maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the home
- assisting with client personal care
- Building positive working relationships with the client, family, community members, and other professionals involved in the care team
- Encouraging and modeling acceptable social standards and setting appropriate boundaries
- Engaging in frequent interaction with clients, using appropriate means of communication
- Facilitating recreational and/or educational activities
- Driving youth to and from school, appointments, outings, etc. as needed
- Attending school meetings and case conferences when required
- Performing household maintenance duties, preparing meals, administering medication, and assisting youth with personal care as needed
- Collaborating with the clinical team and providing input into assessments and care plans
Salary: $22.70-$24.00/hour plus benefits
