At Hollyburn Family Services, we empower growth and inspire change and we’re looking for people to join our team who want to do the same. If this sounds like you, read on. We’d love to have you on our team!
Adults with physical and developmental challenges face housing issues even greater than the average person. Our mission is to help meet those needs. For more than 30 years, we have met the housing and personal needs of individuals with a range of disabilities. Now, we are hoping we can find individuals who can help us continue that tradition of service.
Our focus individuals have a variety of needs:
- Some simply need a home where people will care about them. They require minimal supervision, but need the support and stability that comes from living in a home, rather than an institution.
- Others have greater care needs – needs we can help meet through staff support while the client lives in your home
- Others need to be in a small-group facility where day programs are available
Are you interested in becoming a Home Share Provider?
Sharing your home with an individual with a developmental disability can be extremely rewarding because you are providing a safe and caring home and supporting the individual’s personal development, physical and emotional well-being. At the same time, it is not entirely without its challenges. Most who provide this type of support agree that home sharing is more than a job. It is a lifestyle choice.
Contract lengths are shaped to suit the preliminary needs of the supported individual. Most often, a long-term commitment is ideal for the individual being supported in order to create a sense of stability within their home and a feeling of security and inclusion within their community. Through time, support levels may change as some clients can develop life skills that enable them to live more independently.
Placements are made through family-centered practice and placement decisions are screened through a strict set of guidelines and a series of interviews to ensure quality care.
Home Share Providers are expected to have previous experience working with individuals with developmental, social, or other challenges. To be eligible to become a Home Share Provider, you must have the required qualifications:
- Minimum of 19 years of age
- Satisfactory home study
- Satisfactory Ministry of Public Safety Criminal Record Check
- Satisfactory background check
- First Aid/CPR certificate
- Physician’s certification of good health
- Valid driver’s license
If you have extra room in your home, and want to take on one of the most rewarding challenges you’ll ever face, please complete the application process, including attaching any required documents.
